So what is the idea with Famous Footwear?

Are they reject shoes like Ross clothing. Are they shoes that are not necessarily of the current season and trend? Basically what is the difference from buying a pair of shoes there to buying at a more specialized store? They the employees will tell you the price is the difference but I think there has to be more than that.
