Noise from rear of car?

I am getting a lot of rippling noise from back of 4 year old car. I strapped up all things that could vibrate. Inspected bearings, exhaust etc etc. Finally tracked it down to the tyres which are kuhmo low profile. They have developed flats or as tyre company says steps. Tyres have done 17000. I have been told a lot of front wheel cars have developed this problem and I have read the same in forums. Tyres going back to kuhmo on Tuesday. Has any else had this problem. In case your are wondering the original tyres were Michelin but had 3 bad punctures in a week.
