Saints deserving the Super Bowl?

Why is it that people say that the Saints deserved to win it? Being hit with Katrina obviously was bad and heartbreaking, but why would they DESERVE to win. I believe that no one "deserves" anything in life. We all go through bad times and if everyone got what they "deserved" then we would ALL be happy? What are some other opinions on this?
